Again and Again and Again

Toasted Cake 014: Again and Again and Again by Rachel Swirsky

Episode 14!  In which we scandalize.

As soon as Lionel was old enough, he fled to the decadent city where he drank hard liquor from speakeasies, cursed using the Lord's name, and danced with women who wore bobbie socks and chin-length hair.

First published at Interzone, and later in Gardner Dozois' Year's Best SF.

Rachel Swirsky's short fiction has appeared in a number of magazines and anthologies and been nominated for the Hugo, the Sturgeon, the Locus Award, and the World Fantasy Award. In 2011, her novella "The Lady Who Plucked Red Flowers Beneath the Queen's Window" won the Nebula Award. Parts of "Again and Again and Again" are based on her family. In particular, on her father, who used to say 'when I was a kid, all we had to do to make adults sick was grow out your hair. I pity kids today."
